It is the first step which will in a few years a radical change in Ostia, both from the building and town planning, both for what regards trade and links with other civilizations. The small town turns into a real Roman city, which is larger, fenced with new walls, thus preparing to future developments.

In 217 BC Ostia depart from ships to bring supplies to the Roman army which is in Iberia 212 and there goes the wheat from Sardinia.
In 211 BC Ostia is the basis from which the thirty quinqueremi of Publius Cornelius Scipio, direct Africa to the final conquest of Carthago.
