ITINERARIES FORI IMPERIALI
The Imperial Holes constitutes a series of monumental public squares built up in a century (between the
46 a.C and 113 d.C.) in the heart of Rome from the emperors. The Roman Hole or better the old repubblican square is not a part of the Imperial Holes, which i'ts first lodging was in the age "Regia" (VI century before Crist.) and it had been for centuries the political, religious and economic centre of the city. Although the many new buildings and the reconstructions of the ancient ones, and although the many monuments that made it more beautiful, the Roman Hole never had a unitary character. Under Cesar and Augusto, the construction of the "Julia Basilica" and the reconstruction of the "Emilia Basilica", which delimited long sides of the public square, gave however to the Hole it's own regularity. -> back Other information on Wikipedia - The free encyclpedia |
